My first SPS Coral

So today I got my first SPS coral (Small Polyp Scleractinian; Small Polyp Stony). I just took the one shot of it today when I first put it in. More pics in a couple days.

I also got a new fish! A two spot blenny that I have yet to name. He's really fun to watch as he enjoys sucking up sand and spitting it back out through his gills. He helps stir and clean the substrate so he'll have lots to do in my tank!

Took some photos

Hello out there! I recently got a new coral from the winnipeg fish forum. It's an open brain coran and the member had it for about two years. It's a gorgeous piece that takes up a fair amount of my substrate. I'm very pleased with the acquisition and decided to take some photos for the blog.

It's been a while..

So it's been a couple of months since I've updated. I'll make another post about the important stuff later but here's some quick pics of my new corals. Got these through a local reefer named Tyson. Thanks again man, amazing stuff. Peach zoas, some greens, and some gsp.

Bend it like Beckham....

So today was a big day. I got two clown fish for my tank! I'm pretty bummed at the fact that Jesus (my other fish) isn't big on publicity. He's an introvert to say the least. I have wanted a clown fish since I've started looking at tanks. I just love the color and mannerisms of them and can watch them for hours.

The cool thing about the ocellaris (clown in fancy talk) is that they have the ability to change sex depending on their partner. Two clown fish paired together will eventually form a male and female role and possibly even mate.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the lighter fish in the pair is female. I'll look that up and correct it if it's false later. So based on that I decided to name a male and a female name. Well, actually, my lovely girlfriend took great pleasure in naming them Becks and Posh after David and Victoria Beckham. Thanks honey, you're one of two people who might be reading this. :)

On to the pictures:

<3 Reefgate.com <3

Today I received my big batch of coral from Adam at Reefgate. Reefgate is a company located in Ottawa that specializes in selling exotic corals. I've been watching the site since I started my tank and have been drooling over their pieces since. I've never seen colors available in winnipeg as vibrant as Reefgates.

I ordered a couple different types of Zoanthids in colors that I've never seen here. The frags were smaller than expected (polyp size is half the size of a dime) but the colors look amazing so far.

One coral got knocked off its mount in transit. I glued it back on and am watching it closely now. It's the only piece that doesnt have at least one polyp open.

Enjoy the pics! Sorry for the blue, that's the light that was on to acclimate them:

Say hello to my little friend....

So not a whole lot to report lately. Everything has been going well in the tank as of late. I have noticed that at least one of my cerith snails is dead now... and I think claude is the culprit. I can't guarantee that, so I'll give that little bugger the benefit of the doubt. I wasn't happy when I saw the extra shell though....

Jesus is doing well and I think he's eating mysis now. He is still very shy and doesnt like to stay out in front long. I do find him near the front glass when I walk by but he usually sees me first and retreats into the back rocks. I cant lie, I'm kind of disappointed by his mannerisms and wish I got a more active fish. :o

Oh well maybe he'll get better when I add other fish.

Anyways, I got a new coral from Sheila on the winnipeg fish forum! It looks great so far and is the perfect size piece. I got it for $15 which is a great price considering I've seen single heads sell for as much as $40.
